Scholarships for UO Students

Nearly 40 scholarships are available for UO students to help fund their study or intern abroad experiences. Eligibility, award amount, application process, and deadlines vary by scholarship. Scholarships are often used to supplement the cost of a study abroad program and, in many cases, students can receive and use multiple scholarships for the same program in addition to their financial aid.

Using Financial Aid

Most forms of financial aid can be applied toward the cost of a study abroad program depending on the term in which you choose to study abroad.

  1. Complete FAFSA (Oct 1 - Feb 15).

  2. Get accepted to a GEO study abroad program.
  3. Meet enrollment requirements.
  4. Submit a request for financial aid adjustment.

$500 Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for most programs to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).

Upcoming Deadlines

GEO Planning Scholarships

Apply by: December 15
(Annual deadline)

Apply for one of four planning scholarships as early as fall of your first year. These scholarships will be reserved for your future GEO study abroad program, whenever you choose to go.

GEO General Scholarships

Apply by: January 10 (Spring), March 1 (Summer), April 10 (Fall)

Fill out one application and automatically be considered for seven scholarships, depending on your eligibility, to be used on a GEO-sponsored study abroad program.

Gilman
Scholarship

Apply by: March 6
(application opens mid-January)

The Gilman Scholarship awards up to $5,000 to Pell Grant recipients for study abroad programs and encourages students to participate in programs that align with their academic/career goals.

GEO General Scholarships

If you already know when you plan to study abroad, make sure that you complete the GEO General Study Abroad Scholarships application. With this one application, you will be considered for seven different scholarships that are available throughout the academic year. Eligibility for each scholarship varies. Applications will be reviewed and sorted internally according to which scholarships they qualify for.

SAGE: Study Abroad Global Equity Scholarship

NEW! GEO aims to make study abroad accessible to as many UO students as possible. The SAGE scholarship is for students who identify as BIPOC, First-Gen, and/or low-income. The SAGE Scholarship can be used to study or intern abroad on a GEO-sponsored credit-bearing program. GEO is offering multiple SAGE Scholarship awards of up to $5,000.

GEO Planning Scholarships

Apply as early as fall of your freshman year for any of four planning scholarships to be used whenever you're ready to study abroad. Freeman Fellowship

Fellowships of up to $6,500 are available for students applying to the GlobalWorks International Internship Program who meet the below criteria. To be considered, submit a copy of your Financial Aid Award Offer and provide the name and email of a reference for a letter of recommendation with your application.

Eligibility:

  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • Enrolled at the UO as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student
  • In good academic standing (GPA 2.75 or greater)
  • Accepted to an internship program in East or Southeast Asia (eligible countries: Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam)
